On the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Korea, the Ambassador of Korea, H.E. Hyung-Jong Lee, and Mrs. Jay Hee-Geung Ji cordially invited guests to a concert with the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Orchestra (대전시립연정국악단), followed by a reception, on 26 September 2025 at Konserthuset in Stockholm.
The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Stockholm together with the Korean Cultural Center Sweden. The concert, titled ”Gugak Orchestra”, was dedicated to commemorating Korea’s National Day and presented a rich program blending Korean traditional music (Gugak) with Western orchestral elements, offering a unique cultural experience.

Since 1981, the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Orchestra has been one of Korea’s most distinguished ensembles, bringing authentic yet innovative performances of Gugak to audiences worldwide. The repertoire included royal court music, folk melodies, and innovative compositions that combine traditional Korean instruments with Western harmonies.
Under the artistic direction of conductor Lim Sang-kyu, the orchestra presented a diverse program featuring acclaimed soloists:
- Yoonseo Oh, violin
- Bori Kim, saenghwang (traditional wind instrument)
- Jooyoung Park, Jeongga (classical vocal genre)
- Younghee Lee, Gayageum Byeongchang (singing with gayageum accompaniment)
- Misuk Kim, Pansori (narrative singing)
The evening offered an unforgettable journey into the profound beauty and infinite possibilities of Korean traditional music, celebrating Korea’s cultural heritage on this special national day.
